Mandy Wax
UKCP registered Psychotherapist

I am an adult psychotherapist with extensive experience of working with individuals and couples.  My approach is psychoanalytic and psychodynamic, which recognises that hidden feelings and past experiences often inform our behaviour and the way we relate to others.  By working therapeutically, I help to bring these feelings to the surface and give them space to heal and transform.

I work in both an exploratory and non-judgemental way, and believe that helping people to understand the underlying roots of their difficulties is more effective in the long term than giving advice or reassurance.  I firmly hold that the strength of healing and recovery lies in the quality of the therapeutic relationship.  I am a warm and compassionate therapist with a passion for this work and a genuine desire to help. I have worked with people from all backgrounds who experience mental and emotional distress. I offer a safe, confidential environment in which difficult feelings can be explored. I believe that distress arises from our life experiences which are unique to us and by listening closely, aim to help clients find their own solutions.

In addition to my registration as a full clinical member of the UKCP,  I have a first degree in Philosophy and a Masters degree in Philosophy and Psychoanalysis.  I am also a qualified teacher having trained and taught in secondary schools for many years before becoming a psychotherapist.  I have worked in numerous settings including the NHS, MIND, and other mental health agencies.

I keep abreast of current thinking in this field and attend a number of CPD events each year.  I attend peer supervision in addition to the regular supervision that assists my practice. I recently took a sabbatical where I researched TMS (Tension Myositis Syndrome), neuroplastic pain and the mind-body treatment of chronic pain.
